Everton is trying to appeal the 10-point deduction that the Premier League has imposed on them since November. But football finance expert Stefan Borson believes that the situation with Everton will get worse.
“In the written reasons for handling the first violation, the independent committee hinted that Everton also failed in the 2022/23 season. In the ruling it was said that the trend last season was not positive for Everton. So it's not surprising if Everton continues to fail. Looking at the numbers, they will have problems again in the 2023/24 season. So another penalty is gradually coming towards them."
Borson also believes that Everton's appeal is not feasible.
“You just have to look at the numbers. Everton will not have to worry about financial rules in the 2023/24 season if they compete in the First Division. But Everton's way of handling this situation is silly.
In 2013, anyone familiar with Financial Fair Play could see that Everton had voted for something that would work against them over time. It will limit their ability to compete with the top teams and limit the possibility of a new owner coming in and investing like what happened at Man City and Chelsea. And Everton cannot carelessly break the rules and then be shocked when they receive very heavy penalties."
